Now I Can Wear That New Monokini!
I've had enough of this winter. Between heating oil prices, getting sprayed with half frozen slush at the intersection yesterday and trying to snuggle only to find the electric blanket wasn't working, I want out - at least for a break. And a break we've got coming up. Off to Barbados next week for ten days and no vacation wear! Better fix that and get some of the latest resort fashions in monokinis, bikinis, cover-ups. Also I need several cotton print dresses. I think I'll work first on a couple of new swimsuits and the cover-ups. The cotton print dresses for the evening can come later. In swimwear, monokinis are all the rage and the bikinis are still strong. Maybe I'll opt for both and see which work best for me. When you say Caribbean Vacation, what are you looking for? Idyllic, honeymoon privacy? Your private pool, a deserted beach, a terraced garden on a hillside overlooking the sea? Your meals delivered almost unnoticed. And all you can visualize is the sun. Oh happy days!
For me at my stage in life I need a perfect mix of casual and dressy, serene and noisy, set apart and yet part of a crowd. I'm fine for a day or two on the beach with a book and a tall one to calm down and get my act together but it's not long before I need a little stimulation - a ride, a sail, great meals with Caribbean specialties and some dancing. How about you? Whether it's Anguilla, Barbados, Little Dix, Nevis, St Barts or the Turks and Caicos, the Caribbean has so much variety to offer us Northerners who have to depart this frigid wastes at least once during the winter. Of course the spring and summer rates are pretty darn attractive but somehow it's not the same. Spring and Fall, Florida is fine for me.And then of course the variation in individual locale is extremely wide and the offerings completely diverse. A charming little tropical villa on the beach or with it's own private pool is a wonderful thought but after a day or two, I'm yearning to go shopping with a bud or hang out at the beachfront bar and giggle a lot. That's to say nothing about the way a little caribe band sounds in the islands. Completely different to the CD that you take home when you put it on your player there! I like to snorkel and swim and sail so I like to hang with other guys who do too. Sail to an outlying small island and picnic there and dive. Nothing finer! Then back, shower, change, buffet dinner, drinks and dance the rest of the night away with a group of good friends. That's what makes a Caribbean Vacation. We haven't been to this place in Barbados. Last time we went to Sandy Lane which is gorgeous but in my mind a wee bit boring! Sorry if its your favorite! This time we're renting a villa near Little Good Harbor. Kind of like cottages. Hope there will be some people I can get to know. Looks interesting anyway. Tell you about it when I get back. And I'll let you know what people are wearing (and what I wore!). Like I said, there is a buzz on monokinis this year and I'm getting a couple before I go. I'll hit InStyle and some of the other swimwear sites to look for the best. |
